Having practiced kungfu, or martial arts, for more than 50 years, Sifu Ng Wah Sum had learned and practiced Wing Chun kungfu from Master Leung Sheung after Ng spent his early days in practicing Hung Kuen, or Hung style punching technique.
During the 50 years of non-stop learning process, Sifu Ng had experienced a lot of up and down, and had openly sharing with us of the sweet and bitter, and had never hesitated to share with us or had any intention to cover up any of his wrong doings. He always shared with us what he learned from his mistakes and that we should learn to avoid some wrong doing that could never mend.
He shared with us his experience and what he saw and heard during his days together with Grand Master Ip Man and Master Leung Sheung, and taught us the basic principle and theory of Wing Chun kungfu as well as the traditional wisdom of respecting the seniors.
Sifu Ng never paid any attention to the number of disciples learning from him but the quality of the fellow that want to learn from him. Thus, Sifu Ng had again and again refused to take in new comers and only those whom had showed their patience, sincere and persistence by revisiting him again and again could eventually win his approval in learning from him. Once you were accepted, Sifu Ng would offer his best to teach you everything in accordance to your progress and capability. He would spend more time, effort and patience to fine tune your skill as well as the right attitude and mind set in learning to fight, treating every disciples just like his son and daughter.
It is because of Sifu Ng's concern and care and his willingness to teach and share no matter where you are from and what your skin color are, we can get together and share what we have learned. And now you have gone, but your smile, your lessons and your care will always accompany us. We will always remember you, our greatest and beloved sifu. We will miss you as always.
